Back in the day, when it came to cannabis comedies, you pretty much only had Cheech and Chong. Cheech and Chong pioneered an era of cannabis comedy that helped to break down a stigma, or did it? The Cheech and Chong movies led to the making of other iconic stoner comedies. Some of these movies were actually really good, and others, let’s just say you would have to be stoned to enjoy.
Regardless of the quality of the cannabis film in question, one thing is certain. That is that comedies about cannabis are loved by the masses. While these comedies often poke fun at the stoner lifestyle and stereotypical image of what people think a stoner is, they also touch on subject matters that hold real truth. Instead of having an angry viewpoint about it, they just get high and make fun of it.
These Movies Show That Support is at an All-Time High
A great example would be the movie Half Baked. This comedy looks at a group of childhood friends that grew up with one lady in common throughout their lives, Mary Jane. One of the friends gets arrested and thrown in jail for killing a diabetic horse by feeding it a horde of munchies. The friends then have to figure out how to get their buddy out of jail and end up entangled in a police sting to bust a big-time cannabis dealer named Samson. While the movie has extreme comical aspects to it, it also helps bring lightness to a very serious situation. That situation is, of course, cannabis prohibition sucks and needs to end. It doesn’t always turn out with a happy ending like it does most of the time in the movies for people in real life.
Cannabis legalization has happened in more places in the United States than ever before. For the first time in history, our nation is starting to make right the wrongs of the past by ending continued support of federal cannabis prohibition. Many states have chosen the route of legalizing cannabis against the advice of the federal government. States are listening to people and allowing citizens to make a choice by voting for or against cannabis legalization.
