Uber Eats, an online food ordering service, just launched a partnership with a chain of dispensaries in Ontario, Canada called Tokyo Smoke. Starting Monday, Ontario residents of legal age can order cannabis from Tokyo Smoke online using the Uber Eats platform.

Tokyo Smoke’s products can now be found under a new section of the Uber Eats marketplace labeled “cannabis.” Customers can place their order through the Uber Eats app, but the products must be picked up from a Tokyo Smoke store. Customers will be required to present a valid ID upon arrival. Despite the lack of delivery, the ability to pre-order from a dispensary eliminates a step for cannabis consumers.

Why You Should Get Your Medical Marijuana Card

Veriheal has satisfied millions of patients nationwide by giving them access to these benefits

  • Larger purchase limits
  • Peace of mind
  • Enhanced legal protection
  • Access to higher potency strains
  • Save up to 25% on cannabis purchases
  • Skip the line at the dispensary

“By combining a streamlined ordering process through the Uber Eats app with Tokyo Smoke’s in-person pickup service, we’re creating a new end-to-end experience for responsible cannabis ordering across the province,” said Lola Kassim, general manager of Uber Eats Canada.

According to the New York Post, the partnership marks San Francisco-based Uber’s official entry into the cannabis industry, a move that the company’s CEO has long hinted at. Uber Eats’ liquor delivery is already in full force in both the U.S. and Canada, but the company is waiting on changes to U.S. regulation before introducing online cannabis ordering to the states. While Canada became one of the first nations to legalize recreational cannabis in 2018, cannabis remains federally illegal in the U.S.

Tokyo Smoke is owned by cannabis company Canopy Growth and has nearly 50 stores across Ontario, including one in the city of Windsor which borders Detroit, Michigan.
