If you’ve been searching for a new way to enjoy magic mushrooms, blue honey might be the perfect fit. This mixture combines the natural sweetness of honey with the transformative properties of psilocybin mushrooms (“shrooms”) to create a unique product that’s as versatile as it is effective.
Whether you’ve heard all about it or you’re new to this concept, we’ll explain what it is, what you need, step-by-step instructions for making it, and how to use it safely and effectively.
What Is Blue Honey?
There are countless ways to enjoy magic mushrooms, from grinding and eating them with food to brewing dried pieces in tea. Magic mushrooms have a very distinct, earthy taste, and while some may enjoy the flavor, many people may prefer to mask the taste to experience the effects.
With blue honey, or psilocybin-infused honey, the sweet and delicious flavors of honey meet the hallucinogenic effects of magic mushrooms. It’s an incredible way to enjoy psilocybin, and it can be used in different foods and beverages and stored easily.
So, why is it called “blue honey?” Is it truly blue? While you likely won’t see a bright aqua color, blue honey does contain oceanic tones that can range from batch to batch. This is because the psilocybin in mushrooms oxidizes and takes on a deeper navy color — so the more the psilocybin oxidizes, the bluer it may get.
When you make yours, don’t expect it to look like a vibrant blue, especially since intense oxidation can weaken the strength of your psilocybin.

How to Make Blue Honey
If you’re ready to attempt making your own blue honey at home, it only takes a few simple items and steps to get started.
Ingredients
- Honey: Get whatever flavor or brand of honey you like best. It’s important to ensure that it’s not super solidified, as this can make the mixing and dissolving difficult. If you don’t consume honey, agave syrup is also a great alternative.
- Mushrooms: Of course, you’ll need to get your favorite kind of magic mushrooms. They will need to be ground, so if you already have them in powder form, you can use those instead.
Tools
- Coffee grinder: If you’re starting with larger pieces of mushrooms, you can use a coffee grinder to turn them into a fine powder.
- Glass jar: Make sure you’re prepared to store your blue honey properly. A glass jar with a tight seal is perfect, and it looks nice if you plan on giving the honey as a gift.
Instructions
Once you have your ingredients and tools, it’s time to get started. Follow along with these easy steps:
- Dry your mushrooms completely, if they are not already dried.
- Grind your mushrooms. You can choose whichever method you like best, but one effective option is to cut them into pieces and freeze them for a few hours. Then, you can grind them using a coffee grinder to get a flour-like consistency.
- Start filling your jar with the mushrooms. Filling it about a quarter of the way is an easy way to do the layering, but if you are new to the world of magic mushrooms and not sure yet about dosage or tolerance, we recommend starting with a smaller amount.
- Add a layer of honey (if doing the quarters method, you would now add enough honey to get the jar halfway full).
- Add another layer of your shrooms.
- Add another layer of honey (if doing the quarters method, the jar should now be full. If you are layering in different amounts, continue to alternate until the jar is as full as you like.
- Close the jar tightly.
- This is the toughest part—storing and waiting! Place your honey in a dark, cool, dry place and leave it for at least one month. The longer you allow it to remain, the more the honey will become infused with the psilocybin. For extra-infused, potent honey, you can leave it for a few months.
- Enjoy!
Using and Storing Blue Honey
Getting to use your blue honey is the most exciting part. Of course, you can enjoy it by itself, but you can also use it in food or drinks like tea. It is important, however, to remember that it is a concentrated psychoactive substance, and you should not use it in the same amounts that you might use regular honey.
Blue honey also makes a great gift! You’ll have to plan well in advance since the storage process takes at least a month, but if you can pull it off, it is a thoughtful, unique, and homemade option.
If you enjoy some of your blue honey and want to store the leftovers, simply keep it in a cool, dry place like you would with regular honey. You also might want to label it to make sure that it doesn’t get mixed up with regular honey, especially if you live with others.
Enjoy!
From trying different dosages to infusing your honey into a variety of food and drinks, there are so many different ways to experiment with blue honey. Be safe, have fun, and get creative!
