Countless TV shows and sitcoms have that one episode where somebody uses cannabis to get high, whether it’s Carrie Bradshaw being put in the back of the cop car or the episode where Ted and Marshall are “eating a sandwich” in How I Met Your Mother. And then, of course, there’s the entirety of That ’70s Show.
Weed has always been a part of our television culture in one way or another, no matter what the show is, and those episodes always seem to be some of the most comical and beloved of an entire series run.
Here are a few of our personal favorite and most loved television episodes that feature cannabis, so you can relive the laughable moments brought to you by weed.
Sex and the City Season 6, Episode 7: The One Where Carrie’s Arrested For Smoking a Doobie
After what seemed like a total bust of a night at the bar for Samantha and Carrie, Samantha surprises Carrie with an unlikely win.
“It’s not a total bust,” Samantha tells Carrie before she pulls out the joint that she was able to score from the bartender.
The two friends take turns puffing on their scored joint, happily complaining about men — until they are busted by the cops, mid-inhale, and Carrie is thrown in the back of a cop car.
The cop threatens to take her down to the station, and her friends desperately plead to let her go. “She was dumped by a post-it note!” they told the cop.
Scoffing, the cop doesn’t believe their seemingly made-up story until Carrie slaps the Post-it on the cop car window. “You’ll understand my need to self-medicate after you read this breakup post-it,” Carrie told the cop.
The cop laughs, agreeing with how brutal her break-up was before downgrading her pot smoking to mere smoking inside a bar offense.
The girls wrap up their doobie smoking night by going out for ice cream.
How I Met Your Mother Season 7, Episode 10: The One Where They “Eat Sandwiches”
In How I Met Your Mother, Ted and Marshall “eat sandwiches,” which was actually just future Ted’s euphemism for smoking marijuana in the show. The two friends decide to “eat sandwiches” before attending a concert one night in this episode.
While high in the middle of the concert, Ted and Marshall decide to leave their seats and buy nachos for Lily.
But as they wander aimlessly around the arena, circling it twice, they begin getting a little paranoid and frustrated with each other before splitting off. They begin hallucinating that a mysterious guitar player gives them nachos and guides them back together.
However, they are upset about how long it took them to get the nachos and are sure they missed the entire concert.
When Lily finds them, it’s revealed that they were only gone a few minutes instead of hours like they originally perceived.
Thanks to a security camera, it’s also revealed that the guitarist was actually a life-size cardboard cutout, that Ted pulled the Nachos from the trash, and that they never left the same section of the arena.
That ‘70s Show Season 2, Episode 1: The One Where Red and Kitty Accidentally Get High
Weed consumption is a common appearance on the show, often featured when the gang smokes in a circle and has silly conversations. However, there is one episode on the show that many say stands out as particularly funny.
Normally, Red and Kitty don’t exactly condone the teens’ weed-smoking habit, making this special episode that much funnier. In this episode, titled “Garage Sale,” Red and Kitty are the ones getting high.
See If You Qualify For Medical Marijuana -Select Your State!
Since Hyde had nothing to sell at the garage sale, Kitty suggested a bake sale. Hyde decides to make “special brownies” that he only planned to sell to his friends. However, Red and Kitty, along with Bob and Midge, accidentally get high when they eat Hyde’s brownies thinking they are regular brownies.
The roles are then reversed when the teens are suddenly babysitting the parents, making for some hilarious dialogue in the episode set during the Forman’s garage sale.
While stoned, Red even accidentally sells the iconic Vista Cruiser station wagon for a mere $200.
That ’70s Show has many other iconic episodes centered around cannabis, such as fan favorite “Reefer Madness.”
Friends Season 6, Episode 9: The One Where Ross Got High
In this episode, a flashback reveals a secret about which member of the gang got high in the past.
Monica and Ross’s parents, Jack and Judy Geller, join the friends for Thanksgiving one year. Chandler tries to charm the Gellers knowing they don’t like him, which is extra important as Monica has yet to tell her parents that they moved in together. When Judy makes a comment to Ross about how Chandler is probably stoned again, Ross figures out why his parents don’t like Chandler — a secret from his past is the cause of their dismay.
During his college years, Ross tried marijuana, and his parents walked in on him. Ross panicked, claiming it had been Chandler who was smoking pot and that he had just jumped out the window.
Finally, the truth is revealed by Monica during a shouting revelation about who actually got high all those years ago, along with a laundry list of other secrets.
Grey’s Anatomy Season 14, Episode 20: The One Where They Eat Cannabis Peanut Butter Cookies
Arizona shares the cookies she gets as a thank you from a patient, unaware that they are laced with cannabis peanut butter when she presents them to her colleagues. This ultimately leads to some hilarious moments and mishaps among the Grey-Sloan Memorial Doctors.
A stoned Jackson is supposed to be talking about his mother’s gender confirmation surgery revolution but instead starts talking about her private parts. Meredith, who didn’t eat a cookie, tries to keep the doctors who ate the cookies from causing more self-inflicted damage while high. She takes everyone’s phones and locks them in a room — but that doesn’t solve the high doctors’ problems.
Bailey, who is also unknowingly high, begins cutting open a surgery patient. Luckily, Meredith finds her and offers to take over before things go south. That is, until Bailey accidentally smashes Meredith’s hand in the door on the way out, causing Jo to have to take over the surgery in the end.
Sarah and Bailey also have a hard time keeping secrets while high, and they end up telling Meredith about the news they overheard about how the Harper Avery ward is about to go down the toilet.
Roseanne Season 6, Episode 4: The One With the Stash From the Past
This episode is said to be one of the funniest and most memorable of the series — and for good reason. In this episode, titled “A Stash From the Past,” Dan and Roseanne get high.
When Roseanne finds a bag of weed in the house, she immediately assumes it’s David’s. However, it turns out to be an old bag of cannabis she lost years ago. Dan reveals the flower is from when they stopped smoking when Roseanne was pregnant with Becky, and he stashed it away.
Together, the adults smoke the joint in the bathroom while the kids are away. At first, Dan isn’t sure if they feel anything, saying maybe the weed was too old.
But then, Roseanne pauses and states, “We’re stoned” as she eats a popsicle.
