How Realm Of Caring’s Long-Term CBD Study Could Revolutionize CBD Use

Over 52 million Americans used cannabis at least once in 2021, and that number is set to go up in 2025. With more people showing interest in using cannabis, understanding the herb’s effects and health outcomes has never been more crucial. Realm of Caring Foundation (RoC) is stepping in to fill this knowledge gap with its long-term CBD study, which launched on its website in 2024.

What’s Realm of Caring’s Long-Term CBD Study About?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the major compounds (cannabinoids) found in cannabis. Unlike its cousin cannabinoid, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD doesn’t cause impairing or euphoric effects. Simply put, it can’t get you high. Studies have however shown that CBD may help with pain, anxiety, stress, and nausea relief. 62% of Americans actually used CBD for these effects in 2022.

RoC’s long-term study is looking to delve deeper into CBD’s short and long-term effects. The purpose of the study is to collect data on long-term CBD use behaviors and health outcomes. RoC will then publicly share this data to help people better understand the cannabinoids and how it can change their lives.

Since the study will look into the effects of CBD over years rather than months, it should provide more comprehensive data. More importantly, it should provide stronger evidence of CBD’s potential for medical use. The more the public knows, the easier it’ll be to embrace or reject CBD for therapeutic purposes.

How Is RoC Conducting Its CBD Study?

At the time of publishing, RoC is still recruiting participants for its study. You’re welcome to participate if you’re a U.S. resident, over 18, demonstrate English speaking and writing proficiency, and can fill out a survey in a single sitting. You must also have used CBD at least thrice a week for two years, or not used CBD at all in the past two years.

Since the study is retrospective and survey-based, it’ll look back at participants’ past CBD use and collect data through questionnaires. RoC will collect data over two years, and you can join now via its website to participate in the study. Veriheal patients are also welcome to take part in this study.

What to Expect from this Study

Realm of Caring has studied CBD for years through its Observational Research Registry (ORR) collaboration with Johns Hopkins. This registry has helped gather real-world data on how people use cannabinoids and their health effects.

With its long-term CBD study, RoC is taking things a step further. By expanding its research, RoC hopes to give doctors and patients better information about CBD’s benefits and make its medicinal use more widely accepted.

Why You Should Get Your Medical Marijuana Card

Veriheal has satisfied millions of patients nationwide by giving them access to these benefits

  • Larger purchase limits
  • Peace of mind
  • Enhanced legal protection
  • Access to higher potency strains
  • Save up to 25% on cannabis purchases
  • Skip the line at the dispensary

Some of the potential CBD benefits RoC might prove or disprove with its study include the cannabinoid’s effects on pain management, anxiety, sleep, and overall well-being. It should also cover CBD’s potential neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory benefits, which other studies have mentioned.

Of course, the study won’t be complete if it doesn’t address the possible risks of using CBD, such as concerns regarding liver function, drug interactions, or dependency. Lastly, by analyzing the usage habits of hundreds of users, the research could provide helpful guidelines and insights for safe CBD use.

How RoC’s Study Could Revolutionize CBD Use

Understanding how CBD affects various health conditions over time could help healthcare providers make better-informed decisions about its use. Other ways RoC’s study could revolutionize CBD use include:

  • Share fresh data that helps sway public perception of CBD
  • Clear up much of the misinformation surrounding CBD
  • Influence healthcare and cannabis policies
  • Potentially change medical recommendations for CBD
  • Provide evidence-backed dosing guidance for CBD use across different conditions
  • Establish best practices for long-term CBD use

Existing research by RoC and Johns Hopkins University (JHU) already shows that multiple CBD users report better health, quality of life, less anxiety and depression, and improved sleep. However, more clinical trials are needed to fully understand CBD’s potential and lasting effects. RoC’s long-term CBD study will go a long way in addressing this need.

Challenges and Limitations of RoC’s Long-Term Study

Since this study relies on surveys instead of medical tests for data, it has some limitations. For instance, observational studies like these have limited power and cannot make direct cause-and-effect conclusions. Also, participants may not accurately remember or report their CBD experiences, leading to faulty data. There may also be participant bias related to preexisting beliefs about CBD or cannabis.

Also, some participants may drop out or give inconsistent answers over time, affecting the study’s overall reliability and accuracy. Despite these limitations, RoC’s long-term study is still a big step toward better understanding CBD’s lasting effects.

Why Trust Realm Of Caring’s Study?

Realm of Caring Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2013 to provide usable, research-backed insights about cannabis. The name REALM stands for Research, Education, Advocacy, and Life improvement through Measurable results, reflecting the organization’s mission.

Thanks to its many studies, RoC has become a reputable educational resource for consumers, physicians, scientists, governments, and the media. They have provided free, one-on-one support to over 74,000 families worldwide, helping them make educated choices to improve their lives with cannabinoids. RoC’s advocacy efforts also contributed to making cannabis and hemp legal in multiple states.

Some of RoC’s other research aimed at shedding light on the potential therapeutic benefits of cannabinoids include:

  • Observational Research Registry (ORR): RoC and Johns Hopkins University are conducting this online survey to examine the health effects of cannabinoids. Over 4,000 people have participated in the study, providing real-world data on medicinal cannabis use and the potential of cannabis-based therapies. This study is IRB-approved and still recruiting participants.
  • Epilepsy Studies: RoC has published multiple studies on CBD’s effects on adult and pediatric epilepsy, including how it affects the quality of life, treatment-resistant epilepsy, and mental health of epileptic patients.
  • Female Veteran Study: This study is currently ongoing and looks to discover how cannabis use affects female veterans. It focuses on cannabinoids’ potential benefits for depression, suicide prevention, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), chronic pain, and mental health among our female heroes.
  • National Cannabis Study: Organized by RoC, Veriheal, and JHU, this multi-year research project will monitor approximately 10,000 medical cannabis patients. It will collect large-scale data on cannabis use to understand usage patterns, health effects, and potential benefits or risks.

Each study helps expand our understanding of cannabinoids. RoC believes everyone deserves fair access to cannabinoid education and treatments, regardless of their background or circumstances.
