About Medical Marijuana in Florida

Florida has a list of qualifying conditions that make residents of the state eligible for medical cannabis certification. So far, the Sunshine State has approved the following conditions:
Cancer
Epilepsy
Glaucoma
HIV/AIDS
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
Crohn’s disease
Parkinson’s disease
Multiple sclerosis (MS)
Medical conditions of the same kind or class as or comparable to the others listed
Terminal condition diagnosed by a physician other than the qualified physician issuing the physician certification
Chronic nonmalignant pain caused by a qualifying medical condition, or that originates from a qualifying medical condition, and persists beyond the usual course of that qualifying medical condition

Becoming a medical marijuana patient in Florida is a three-step process. First, Veriheal can help you book an appointment with a licensed medical marijuana doctor who will review your ailments and medical conditions. Second, once you are evaluated and approved, your doctor will enter you into the Medical Marijuana Use registry. Finally, you’ll apply for a Registry Identification Card through the state. The state will process your application and mail your card. You can then buy medical marijuana from any Florida dispensary in your area.
To receive medical cannabis, be aware of the following:
– You’ll need to complete the application for a Medical Marijuana Use Registry Identification Card with the Florida Department of Health Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU). Submit all necessary documentation and a $75 application fee.
– Complete the Patient Attestation Form and bring it to your appointment with the doctor.
– You must re-certify your cannabis prescription every seven months by seeing your doctor. We do not charge extra for these additional visits for re-certification within the same year. You will need to renew your card annually.
– Minors will need recommendations from two physicians to qualify.

Along with having one or more of the qualifying conditions, a patient must be able to prove they are a Florida resident with a valid driver’s license or state identification card. Florida charges $75 for annual registration, which is a separate fee from your approval/recommendation from a licensed doctor.

Getting a Florida medical marijuana card with Veriheal costs a total of $254. Your $179 fee with Veriheal covers your consultation fee, physician copay, and the medical evaluation for your recommendation, with financing options. The state requires a $75 fee for registration.

Like the patient, a caregiver must meet specific requirements by the state to assist a patient with medical cannabis use. The cost of a caregiver card is $75; however, Veriheal can help caregivers and qualified patients apply together to save money.
A caregiver must be a Florida resident, be over 21 years old, complete a caregiver certification course through the Medical Marijuana Use Registry every 2 years, and pass a background check (unless they are a close relative of the patient).

According to Florida state law, a certified physician may not issue a certification for more than three 70-day supply limits of marijuana or more than six 35-day supply limits of raw flower marijuana for smoking or vaping.

Registered patients’ daily THC doses are restricted to 60 mg for edibles; 350 mg for vaporization; 200 mg for capsules and tinctures; 190 mg for sublingual tinctures; 190 mg for suppositories; and 150 mg for topicals.

Lastly, a 35-day supply limit for marijuana for smoking shall not exceed 2.5 ounces.

Cultivation of medical cannabis for personal use is illegal in Florida.

To renew your Florida medical marijuana card through Veriheal, you’ll need to schedule a renewal appointment with one of our physicians. They can confirm that you still need medical cannabis for your qualifying condition and help you with the renewal process. We will remind you when it’s almost time for your renewal appointment, or you can reach out to our Customer Service Department so we can assist you and apply a renewal discount for you.
