First, schedule an appointment to see a medical marijuana doctor in IA through Veriheal at a time that is most convenient for you. You’ll need to provide your basic medical history, and you can attach all medical records to your account with Veriheal once you create it.
Next, consult with a doctor for 10-15 minutes to evaluate your ailments. Use this time to ask any questions you may have about medical marijuana treatment. After the appointment is complete and you are approved, the doctor will fill out and send you a digital copy of your Healthcare Practitioner Certification Form, which indicates you’ve been approved for medical marijuana by a licensed physician.
Finally, register and complete the online application. You’ll need to upload your Healthcare Practitioner Certification Form, driver’s license or state ID, and reduced fee verification (if applicable). There is a $100 state fee that you will pay upon submitting your application. If a patient receives government assistance or is experiencing financial hardships and can provide documentation of these hardships, the state fee is reduced to $25.
The state will process your application and approve you within 3-5 business days of completing your application, at which time they will send your card in the mail
Along with having one or more of the qualifying conditions, a patient must be able to prove they are an Iowa resident with a valid driver’s license or state identification card, unless they are a minor.
Getting an Iowa medical marijuana card with Veriheal costs a total of $299. Your $199 fee with Veriheal covers your consultation fee, physician copay, and the medical evaluation for your recommendation, with financing options. The state requires a $100 fee for annual registration.
Caregivers of either adult or minor registered cannabis cardholders are encouraged to apply online for efficient evaluation and faster approval. To be eligible as a caregiver, the applicant must be named on the Healthcare Practitioner Certification Form signed by the patient’s primary doctor.
Additionally, the caregiver must have photo identification or a valid driver’s license from Iowa or the bordering states of Nebraska, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, or South Dakota. The cost of caregiver registration is $25 payable to the Iowa Department of Public Health. After a caregiver is approved to assist a patient, they must visit any Iowa Department of Transportation facility to register their medicinal cannabis oil card.
Raw flower and edibles are not legal in Iowa. However, cannabis is allowed in other forms including orals, vaporizers, topicals, nebulizers, and suppositories. Recently, Gov. Kim Reynolds revised the 3% THC cap to 4.5 grams of THC allowable every 90 days. If a patient needs more, their physician can recommend and request a greater quantity be allowed to provide adequate relief for the particular condition.
Cultivation of medical cannabis for personal use is illegal in Iowa.
