Huntington’s disease
Patients who need hospice care or palliative care also qualify for medical cannabis in Louisiana.
Unlike many other states, there is no application program that you must fill out and submit through the Louisiana government. Instead, the process is largely handled by your physician.
First, you must meet with a doctor to talk about your condition. Once you obtain a valid doctor’s recommendation and qualify for medicinal cannabis in the state, your doctor will register you at the local dispensary of your choice. You can then visit the dispensary and verify your registration with your state ID or driver’s license.
Along with having one or more of the qualifying conditions, a patient must be able to prove they are a Louisiana resident with a valid driver’s license or state identification card, unless they are a minor.
Getting a Louisiana medical marijuana card with Veriheal costs a total of $99. Your $99 fee with Veriheal covers your consultation fee, physician copay, and the medical evaluation for your recommendation, with financing options. The state requires no additional fee for annual registration.
A caregiver is someone designated to help purchase and administer medical cannabis to someone who cannot do it themselves, such as a minor. A Louisiana caregiver must:
– Be 21 or older
– Be responsible for managing the well-being of the patient
– Have no relevant felony offenses
– Assist no more than five qualifying patients with their therapeutic use of cannabis, unless the designated caregiver’s qualifying patients each reside in or are admitted to a healthcare facility or residential care facility where the designated caregiver is employed.
Like the patient, the caregiver must also prove residency by submitting a driver’s license or state identification card.
Louisiana allows patients to purchase up to a 30-day supply of medical cannabis. Dispensaries offer different forms of cannabis, including oils, tinctures, topicals, capsules, edibles, and inhalers. Patients can possess up to 2.5 oz at a time.
Cultivation of medical cannabis for personal use is illegal in Louisiana.
To renew your Louisiana medical marijuana card through Veriheal, you’ll need to schedule a renewal appointment with one of our physicians. They can confirm that you still need medical cannabis for your qualifying condition and help you with the renewal process. We will remind you when it’s almost time for your renewal appointment, or you can reach out to our Customer Service Department so we can assist you and apply a renewal discount for you.
A medical marijuana registration in Louisiana is valid for one year.
